Investing, taxes, residency
What are the tax laws?
Costa Rica welcomes foreign investors, therefore, visitors from all nationalities can be owners of a property in Costa Rica and have the same rights and obligations as a national.
Our tax system for foreign investment is highly attractive, with the yearly property tax at .25% of the declared value of your condo. This value may only be changed by an appraisal every five years.
Costa Rican laws also allow that companies own property. Therefore, it is possible for foreign investors to own property through a company since they can be named as one of the three legal members to
represent the company.
How do I get residency?
Costa Rica welcomes foreign investment and our immigration authorities grant residency to those investors who are seriously interested in Costa Rica.
Those interested in obtaining resident status are required to submit certain requirements previous to the granting of this status.
